Tour Description
:Los Arcos is an underwater National Reserve composed of rocky islets covered with grass, cactus and small trees. The islets are natural sanctuary for pelicans sea hawks, blue footed boobie birds and swallows. The unforgiving effect of erosion has formed amazing tunnels and arches, sea life is abundant and Los Arcos is the site with more biodiversity in the Banderas Bay.
The Dive Sites at Los Arcos:
The Aquuarium Scuba and snorkel: consists of shallow depths and natural protection. Is is located only a few hundred meters from the rocky south shore and at the bottom lies between 15 to 40 feet from the surface the volcanic rock formations covered with a decent variety of soft and hard corals. Although there is not too much coral formations in the area, the amazing amount of sea life in this ecosystem is impressive.
El Bajo scuba & snorkel : A sea mountain, we dive this site in 30 ft to 60 ft of water and the maximum depth is 80 ft. There are more fish, coral, shallow volcanic formations and the highlight of this site are the sea turtles, zebra moray eels, eagle rays and a great deal of sea life. On the west side of the reef, the sandy bottom falls rapidly to great depths.
El Paredon scuba & snorkel : This site starts at the south edge of The Canyon in a shallow 60 ft surface to bottom wall and is a drift dive along the south face of the biggest islet of Los Arcos, it is also a multilevel dive starting at 60 ft and ending the dive in 20 to 25 ft. This is a very enjoyable dive in which you do not have to turn back and find the boat, the boat follows the divers until they surface. Very good interaction with Eagle Rays.
El Cañón & La Quijada Del Diablo scuba : The Canyon and the Devils Jaw are excellent dive spots for the diver seeking for more adventure below the 60 ft mark. These are 2 of the greatest dive sites in the bay and there is a vertical wall down to 600 ft, drifting along the edge at depths of 70 to 110 ft you will encounter large schools of jacks and snappers, green moray eels up to 6 ft long, octopus, barber fish feeding off of thousands and thousands of eggs laid by giant damsel fish, the enormous titan trigger fish nesting in the sand bottoms, the largest yellow fin surgeon fish in the world and careless eagle rays hovering on top of the reef baiting off nutrients from the rocks and among other species the great pacific mantas are seen very often from June to August.
At night, Los Arcos is another great option for certified divers.
Both Divers and Snorkelers go to Los Arcos on the same trip, so if a companion would rather snorkel, be sure to check out our Snorkeling Los Arcos tour!
Our favorite boats to service Los Arcos are La Fiesta a 40 ft Catamaran or Velox a 33 ft Catamaran, these boats were specially designed to facilitate scuba diving and snorkeling activities enhancing superb stability and comfort. Both vessels are set up with bathroom facilities, totally carpeted and 85 percent shaded, all safety regulations including Oxygen, first aid kit, life jackets, radio and on-board insurance.
